The National Exchange Club

Names New Executive Vice President

The National Exchange Club, America’s Service Club since 1911, has announced the appointment of James M. Hartley to the position of executive vice president effective December 15, 2009. As executive vice president, Hartley will be responsible for fulfilling the objectives of the organization, implementing board policies and managing the day-to-day operation of the National Exchange Club Headquarters in Toledo, Ohio.

Concurrently with his position as executive vice president, Hartley will also serve on the board of trustees of the National Exchange Club Foundation, which supports Exchange’s child abuse prevention efforts and other service programs, including Americanism, youth and community service activities. He brings to Exchange more than 25 years of experience and a record of success.

Most recently, Hartley served as executive director of the Ohio Society of Association Executives, a 650-member society for the state's professional and trade association community. Prior to that, he spent 14 years as vice president of membership and technology for the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants, the nation's fourth largest state CPA society. During that time, membership in that organization increased 70 percent from 14,000 to more than 24,000 members – the largest increase among all state CPA societies in the United States. Hartley also brings with him many years of experience in the field of public relations.

Hartley is a member of the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) and the Association Societies Alliance (ASA). He is currently a member of the ASA executive committee and serves as treasurer for the organization. In 1999, he earned ASAE's Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation. His CAE specialties are: Association Management, Marketing and Communications, and Strategic Technology Planning and Implementation. Hartley received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Ohio State University.

The National Exchange Club is a community service organization of nearly 800 clubs and 25,000 volunteers throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. Exchange is working to make America a better place to live through one national project, the Prevention of Child Abuse, and other projects in the areas of Youth, Americanism and Community Service. To date, the National Exchange Club’s efforts have helped more than 691,000 families and 1.7 million children break the cycle of child abuse.
